As an aside (in case anyone gets the wrong impression), I actually think Noj has generally created better looking pieces than the original 1970 style Dubrovnik
I think this is highly debatable & comes down to how one look's at images on a screen felonet .
I have what we call a Minceta { which is a Noj made up name } My set is a original" Jakopovic with matching bases . Just to add the Jakopovic workshop had many styles over his long career .
NOJ make a nice copy , Some how let down by the knight design ? Still this is going on images from a screen .
Just to add for years used to think the Dubrovnik was a ugly chess set , But then BF liked it ,
So must be more to it I guess , I mean this guy played with so many types of chess sets .
Over sometime the design of the knight started to grip me in taste . As it had this Sea Horse look with the flare nostril's + Add Yugoslavia Butalist architecture in a Atomic Age / Bingo a socialist workers chess set .
My set now sit very happy on my coffee table & is a joy to look at + play with .
So taste can change , Well it did for me .

Ditto. Dubrovnik grew on me too.
Felonet, you certainly don't owe anyone an apology! It's your monies. Just get what makes you happy, my man.
Btw, I'm also in the court of not having totally appreciated the Dubrovnik design in the past. I bought a nice set from a seller who did an admiral job (surprisingly, C.B.).
Now, after a couple of years and tons of viewings, I love this style.
Good luck
