Sooo here are pics. Pocket chess or travel? I am ignorant to this as I’m not a regular chess player, but while at thrifty shop I noticed it. I paid 79 cents but would love to know the history of these as I am gifting to my brother. Thank you all in advance.

Very nice set, It goes back a ways, made in England, it's complete, and could be either travel or pocket. Very nice indeed, great find for 79¢.  You have yourself a winner.

Any chance you would know what it’s worth? And thank you. I picked it up as my brother is a chess enthusiast and his day is coming up but I’m just curious. Thanks.

I have no idea about the price.  If I had to guess that would be about a $20 to $25 birthday gift. I bought similar sets on eBay over the years in the $15 to $25 range if they look really nice. Of course this past year anything chess has gotten priced a ridiculous amount.  I am sure he will like it.

Recently saw this tiny 4x3" Van Keuren, magnetic travel chess set from 1973 on a "popular auction site". It's literally the size of a cell phone screen. When is small, TOO small? Hah! I had to pass on it.

I like smaller sets, because I can keep one in my car glove box for when my wife has a longish shopping spree.

That one is cute, but just a bit too small.

I recently took a miniature set I had and added magnets to it so I could use it with my Chessmate folding board. It's now my absolute favorite set to take with me when I go places.
