REGIUM Automatic Chess E-board

BaronVonChickenpants

It is fake. It has been thoroughly debunked here and at LiChess. They were due to be launching their Kickstarter tomorrow, lets see if they do.

ChessMasterSecrets

On Kickstarter one can only leave comments if one is a backer! Perhaps they simply plan to go ahead! Since they are heavily deleting negative comments everywhere.

I say we put the Amazing Randi on the case...

If Chess.com staff can't get a live demo at Regium headquarters, I think that's all you need to know.

(Just doing my part to help with the post count. :-))))

One can also cancel any pledge made up to the date that it finishes.  . I'd imagine a few emails to the Kickstarter support team informing them of the questions over this project would work well

We all get the message by now.

I read most of this forum and understand the points but I don’t think it is a fraud. My read is that it comes from genuine chess-loving engineers who have limited entrepreneurial experience and made some representation mistakes in their enthusiasm.

If the video is “real,” I still doubt that it works as well as they show. I can almost guarantee it is more buggy than that.

I have dabbled with some similar designs in my garage years ago with the same goals. I felt sure someone would create a coil grid chess board eventually. It is what I hoped the Square Off would be when it was first announced. I am glad they are at least talking about turning the concept into a product. Piece ID and eliminating the mechanical XY positioner open up a lot of possibilities. They are basically shooting for a faster, quieter, sleeker, tournament-size version of the Square Off board with some neat additional features. If not Regium, someone else needs to produce it.  It is certainly possible from a technological perspective. Whether the final result will be affordable or whether Regium will get enough early investment funds to perform the necessary design iterations to make it a market success are unclear.

Why mince words? It's not unclear at all. Chess players from 3 major chess websites won't touch this with a barge pole. It's clear as day.

That's too bad. You may be right upon reading the latest due-diligence updates.  However, I stand by the claim that it is technologically possible. If Regium flops and nobody else builds it, we must.

The backers will be disappointed when they realize the project is a scam and they are going to lose their money. Meanwhile, there is no way Regium can delete my comments.

I might know of a chess e-board company he could work for.

I don't know where that came from, but you're entitled to your opinion. He's retired now anyway.

Damn, I really had hoped this would be the real deal. Anyway, it's great to see the chesscommunity band together to expose this fraud. Chess.com and Lichess deserve compliments in the way they handled the situation.

What I don't understand, If I was considering a scam I wouldn't consider chessplayers as ideal targets. Maybe it has something to do with bragging rights "I scamt the whole chess community". Seeing Angel posing as a Menza member that could be the case.

EZY1981

If it is a scam then I stand corrected and applaud those members who scruitinized. ..... ever watched " don't fxxk with cats ? ...

Mate, sorry to break it to you but being a chess player doesn't make you harder to fool than Joe Average. There are plenty of stupid chess players too. An hour spent on the forums here prove that.

Carrinthe

Yes, you're probably right. After the second video I was quite convinced. I don't know enough about magician tricks or videoediting to see the way that video was manipulated. I didn't know human faces could be rendered so convincingly.

Gomer_Pyle

Whether it is a scam or not I think it's safe to say that L cost Regium a lot of backers. His posting style turned a lot of people off him and then off Regium by association. His rabidly defending Regium against any and all doubts and concerns caused many people to scrutinize anything and everything to do with Regium, raising even more doubts and concerns.

this thread is crazy, at this point is like a thriller, I just come back here to see what's next just in case there are more surprises

Haverumwilltravel

Lets get this up 700 posts by tonight,

Spaskis1976

It is surprising that not a single comment coming from chess24. They seem to be very busy celebrating anniversary not seeming to realize that the name of the World Champ has appeared side by side with Regium. I wonder what is going on...

I think the product probably was working as shown. The forums are so toxic that you have all ruined this for everyone. Why would they release it now? Hope you’re all proud of yourselves. This sort of vigilant detective behaviour will also deter others away from kickstarter.
