Some time ago, I posted about this set in its ebonized version. I liked my friend Phil's set so much that I picked one up on EBay, this one in Sheesham. It's an interesting design with an interesting pedigree discussed in my earlier post and on House of Staunton's website. As to the design, it's really designed for play with the extremely broad bases making it very stable. 3.75" kings and heavily weighted, we played with it on HOS's new chess table with 2.375" maple and rosewood squares, with a mahogany frame, and a Sutton Coldfield clock.
