Is that a British Chess Company set?
The Red NOJ Dubrovnik II
Very cool set and pictures sir. Too bad they no longer have the red set, it sure stands out the best.
Beautiful set.
I don't think I can get used to a Knight the size of a pawn, though. They designed that on purpose, didn't they?
Yeah, it was small enough in the originals, which I still recall playing with, but for some reason HOS downsized their reproduction.
The Noj sets take considerable time to produce and each set is made to order. So I doubt we will ever see a sale, but we can of course always hope. A Noj Dubrovnik is highest on my wish list.

Also high on my wish list as well.
@cgrau, I am always in awe of the sets that you have...in your opinion...NOJ 1950 Dubro or the Dubro II ...(if you could only choose one) ?

My Dubro II. It's weighted, plays better, and I like the red. But it's a close call. The 1950 is more historic, and I like that.

NOJ's sets are made to order, and they have a never-ending backlog of orders. There is no backlog of inventory to reduce through a sale.
Another question is about weighting. Izmit mentioned earlier sets were completely unweighted, what if we requested for something like that.
What are the pros and cons of an unweighted Dubrovnik chess sets ?
I plan to use this as an playable set and mainly for study purpose. My Dubrovnik on my vinyl board like #Fischer 😀
I will shoot an email to Gregor ask as well. I also need to find out what is the wait period to purchase this set.
Thanks
I can respond as I own all of the current colors they produce the Dubrovnik II.
The Red and Brown are stained wood. The pieces are finished with multiple coats and sanding.
The wood they use for both the White and stained pieces is an European Maple.
Their weighting is not too heavy. The pieces have a nice balance to them as well.
I have all weighted sets and do know someone that has an unweighted one from them. Their weighting and balance is so good that I would always go with their weighting.
I use my Brown stained Dubrovnik II as my every day carry set. It’s great.
In one of your threads, you mentioned that your brown stained Dubrovnik almost seemed black. Why was that ? Maybe surrounding light or camera problems.
If you have a look at Chuck’s Set, it seems to be a Glossy Red look, a Glossy Brown stain might be just as beautiful.
Thanks everyone.
The Noj sets are polished with a lacquer, numerous times with sanding in between. This gives a nice shine to the pieces but not so much to be a high gloss finish.
My brown stained pieces are a dark brown. In normal lighting you can tell it is not black, but it can look almost black in pictures.
If you look at the pictures on the Noj site, that brown is the same but there is more area of the darkest brown stain on the pieces in real life.
I love this set and use it a lot with a green and buff board for rated play. It is great.
Wow. The platform black square board with the red lacquer set is fantastic!
I like that combination, too. Some people might find it too painful to play on. I don't.
