Vintage 4.5" Drueke (Lardycommissioned I believe) vintage w/HUGE wood box ...

Ronbo710

Hi All - Just thought I would share my latest Drueke acquisition happy.png . A vintage 60's or 70's Drueke 4.5" Club set Made in France commission with a BEAUTIFUL real wood (NOT veneer) heavy thick box. This is how they should ALL be made IMHO. Very beautiful set (even with the White King's Lardy lean lol) and super high quality box. I haven't seen this set in a vintage Drueke catalog. If anyone has please let me know the specifics. Definitely their top of the line and must have been what the 2.75" board was meant for (like the Imperial #38 Player's Choice). Sorry to the one bidder I beat out if you are here. Thank God for ensipe lol. Enjoy ...

Just curious-how much did you pay?

It was on E*ay and I won it for $510. Which to me was a steal for a set I have only seen one other time in collecting for over 20 years.

Why do you think the King is leaning Ron?- Stunning set by the way

In the curing or drying process the boxwood wasn't left long enough. This occurs primarily in the larger pieces of Lardy sets I have noticed.

Oh, Ron, magnifique! And only $510. That is a steal.

More pics please, maybe setup on a board .... (if you don't mind).

Beautiful set Ron, but that goes without saying. The "Lardy lean" is something one has to develop a taste for. (I love the later Lardy sets, with the pointy, less bulbous Bishops' miters, so for me it's a taste well developed)

That box is something else! I don't think I've seen anything before quite like those grooves for holding the bases of the pawns and pieces.

Sure. Here's a quick one on the Drueke vintage 2.75" board I took yesterday. I will get more when I get home today ...

Yes I agree about the box. Those white pads under the pieces are micro fiber clothes I put there as I want the larger pieces to be resting on something and not just suspended in the box. I seriously doubt they made very many of these sets with this box. I would love to know the original price happy.png .

That is one beautiful set, what a find Ron. I bet you'll be burning the old midnight oil researching that set. Amazing find. Im sure @cgrau owns a similar set

Nice sniped score.👍 I have never been a fan of the Drueke knights that look like ant eaters.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been shut down for using the term "huge box".
