Your Favorite Knight(s)

Wow! those are very cool!

Indeed, I agree with MT and MCH. The knights remind me of great anatomy carvings and works of Renaissance sculptures by Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Famous for such works as "La Pieta" and "David". Magnificent muscle and bone structure into those knight carvings. The steed's head, mane, hooves, and tail are also immaculate carvings.

It is definitely art! It's a 5" set which is way too big for me but it is very beautiful

I did check out this set and a few others offered on this site....Pricey stuff!

I doubt the anti NOJ crowd will spring for the more expensive offerings there, but they have a superb selection of gorgeous sets.

I LOVE that Egyptian set!

QtoQlevel3

Not for the faint at heart in the wallet that's for sure!

MCH818

Yes, the $1499 price tag is very expensive. But the main rationale of the Noj haters is the middlemen. In this case, there is no middlemen. The buyer would be buying direct. Can you imaging the price of this set if it was produced in the Eurozone? Geez that would be shocking for sure.

Well,to be honest,I must find a way to obtain that Egyptian set.I'll out aside getting other sets for a while and eventually find a good excuse to convince my wife how badly I need it.

I may have to forgo her amazing cooking, until she calms down though.

Simply gotta' have that set!

There are already too many standard-ish sets out there and we all have many of them already.

This one just hits all the high notes for me.

Just my 2 cents.

MCH818

@Magictwanger I know what you mean about hitting all of the notes. There are some sets that just do it for me and I have no idea why sometimes. Anyhow, I read your previous posts about your wife's cooking and how good it is. You must really want this set that much if you're going to give that up. Well good luck with wife! Post photos when you get the set.

magictwanger

HA! Well,I may have gone a bit overboard with my enthusiasm of this particular set.

I have seen Chess Empire offer a 20% discount on their site(packed with gorgeous stuff....here's where QTO Q Level 5 has to stop finding this stuff and posting. It gets me in financial trouble) but I have also seen this set offered with a $400.00 discounted price already.

Overall if I wanted to splurge I could, but since I already have so many sets I think my best option is to slow down the buying and wait for the right moment to obtain the Egyptian set. That could be a year or maybe two.....Though,admittedly,having been a Psych Major, there is no better feeling than buying on emotion.

That feeling goes away very quickly when you get knocked on your head with a frying pan.-happy.png

MCH818

Haha ya don't anger the wife. That wouldn't be good.

Buying on emotions can be bad though. I don't know about you but there are some sets where I like for a minute and others I seem to just love forever. I usually can tell which but I sometimes wait a bit to see if I really it fades or not.

magictwanger

Agreed....I was pretty much kidding anyway. You are right about some sets fading, while others stick.

My wanting the German Knubbel set faded,as well as the C.B. Ceska Kublovka set, though the Staunton Castle Old Vienna Coffee House set might be still in the running.

Can't wait for Black Friday,or Cyber Monday....If I make it that far,in these crazy times.

MCH818

I really like the Knubbel set to this day but I just wasn't sold on it. I still like it but it is not to a level where I would get it. It is one day maybe kind of set.

This year is crazy for sure. I hope we all make it through it to see better days ahead.

Agreed again.....I have the antibodies, after winding up with Pneumonia and a Pulmonary Embolism.

Totally 100% now,but since the testing is so inaccurate,I had a second antibody test last week.I'll get the results Thursday......Having a son who is an infectious disease specialist has helped me through it all,but I was really fanatical with the social distancing and mask "thing" and  still wound up in this crazy situation....Go figure!

This one, in particular, caught my eye of interest, I like the style of the bishops along with the rest of the set that blends together quite nicely.

That sparked my interest, too. But the set differs considerably from other repros of "Vienna coffee house" sets, and the vintage ones I've seen on offer also look rather different.

magictwanger

Cute, but Staunton Castle has the finer looking set.All just a matter of taste.

Best wishes.
