Did you know that the rook always can touch a maximum of 14 squares as long as other pieces are not blocking its path? There are 4 rooks.

4 x 14 =56.

That means that when all four rooks are still on the board, you can count on them to each be touching 14 squares maximum. This must be important for tactics and other planning. Is my knight on or moving to one of the squares that one of the rooks can move to?

Well... is it?

Often, some of the rooks will be touching the same squares.

So remember that the whatever approach is just not good enough. As a developing chess genius you must strive for unlimited excellence!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever, I'm going to finish my beer now. Thanks for posting.

Also, the queen touches a maximum of 27 squares and there are 2 queens on the board usually unless they are exchanged off OR if one player blunders and loses his/her queen OR if there is a promotion.

2 x 27 = 54

And there's only 64 squares on the board, so that means something. Again...the whatever approach isn't going  to cut it. I'm sorry.

One really must account for all of the pieces when thinking about strategy and tactics, but whatever I'm going to finish my other beer.

The Knights touch a maximum of 32 squares at the maximum as a knight touches 8 squares at the maximum and there are four knights on the board unless one is traded off or blundered or a pawn is promoted.

Do you all know the story of Peter Piper?
Well if you don't,  it goes something like this:

Peter was a man who could play his flute so well it would would carry rats through the streets and Peter led them away. One day the townsfolk didden't pay the price Peter set, so he led the town's kids away into a cave, and never let them out. The story becomes unclear if the kids lived wonderfully, or diddent.
