Should Magnus face some sort of penalty/fine for this?

I know if a NFL football player pushed a camera person while he was walking off the football field, he would face some sort of fine.  I know having camera people following you around like that is annoying.  But Magnus is the highest rating player in the world, this rapid/blizt World Champions, and he still on the tournament floor.  He has no right to privacy there.  The camera guy was just doing his job.   I am sure Magnus was upset about game he just lost, but you can't be shoving people.   What do you think?

To be fair, the cameraman was quite close, and he broke the boundary, so pushing away was not alright, but fair.

broke the boundary?

Avatar of CheckOnYaLater

boundary as in personal space, he was super close.

He was close, but not that close. He was still a couple of feet away when Carlsen shoved him. If he had been like just a few inches away, I would agree with you.

Yes, but Magnus just lost an important game, and the cameraman was following after him and shoving the camera up in his face; he could have just zoomed in. If you look at the video from the cameraman's pov, Magnus only pushed the cameraman when he got really close at the end

I know he lost an important game. You still can't shove someone like that.
We will have to agree to disagree on whether the cameraman was too close or not.

He was within arm's reach of an angry monster, probably a 5 IQ camera man. hey #1, are you gonna go within paws reach of a lion at feeding time?

No, I don't think Magnus did anything that warrants a fine or something. I actually think this was so mild & it blows my mind to think of the attention placed on such a trivial moment. You get inside of 3 feet with me & I might give a stiff arm too.

Well I am telling you, an NFL player does that while walking off the field, he is going to get fined.

How long armes do you think Magnus have?

Don’t know, but I just googled average arm length and it said 24 to 30 inches.

Kind of stupid to be a foot away when you have a zoom lens. Intrusive and annoying.

So the cameraman was 2 feet away (This is taking the 30 inch estimate) because he managed to shove the camera with his full hand and part of his arm

While we're speculating, we should go with even bigger numbers

He's always been an embracement to the community

Well, it wasn't the best behavior ever, but frankly the cameraman's behavior was a little out of line too. A little private talk to both might be in order.

Getting a jury to convict is another matter, but in many countries he does not.
