Why don't you try either the Game Explorer or the Book Openings at http://www.chess.com/games/ ?

Try the Winawer or Steinitz variations. I am starting to use them, and they seem to work very well. If you want, we could paly a few practice games, and I could help you out, the french being my favorite opening against 1.e4.

There're actually sort of a lot of them... while the French is hard to play against, it IS also hard to play. Possibly a good start is picking up Watson's very excellent know the opening volume 1 (and NOT has famous French series; you'll get buried in all the variations).
