Caro-Kann Defense: Karpov Variation; how should Black play?

KeSetoKaiba

I was looking at one of Fischer's games (versus Petrosian in 1961 ["The sincerest form of flattery" from Fischer's book My 60 Memorable Games) where Fischer played this opening as the White pieces. The game began as above: but what should Black play on move 7, in response to 7.Bc4 I wonder? Petrosian responded with 7...Bf5 in the game and that looked best to me as well. However the chess.com basic analysis (I know isn't the best source at times) gave this move as an inaccuracy. More odd is that the computer analysis also believes that ...Bf5 was the best move! What? How can this be? The computer evaluates based on how many centipawns "worse" than the "best" move was played - it is logically impossible, by definition, for the "best" move to be an "inaccuracy."

Anyone else experience weird computer suggestions? Furthermore, what should Black play after 7.Bc4: are there other "book alternatives" that should be noted? Any deeper insight into this opening would be helpful (from either side, but specifically as the Black pieces).

The idea being to develop Bc8 at some point (so before playing e6, although playing e6 and develop later Bc8 at b7 may be possible).

Black cannot play Bg4, due to Bc4 (Bxf7).

So Bf5 of course.

I am not sure about the continuation u give.

Why Bd6 to go back at e7? Be7 at once.

Black wants to play c5, so u can consider playing e6/Be7/0-0/c5 (or a queen move before).

I am not sure about Bc4-Bd3 and same for black, with Bxd3. Why not Bg4 (on Bd3)? The pin is annoying, especially after white castled (if not h3-g4 against the pin would be an option).

Computer analysis in first moves is not really relevant, it cannot discover theory all alone, especially engines online which are weaker than "off line" ones.

Thank you for the insight regarding this opening IM poucin.

p.s. "I am not sure about the continuation you gave..."  That portion I did not manually put in; that was the chess.com "basic analysis" opinion (which I think reinforces my earlier note that it "is not the best source at times").
