Hey, everyone. New guy here. First post and all. I'm pretty amateur when it comes to Chess, but I'm always willing to listen.

Looking for the most aggressive response to King's Pawn Game (1. e4 e5 ) as white.

I figured Center Game #2 (2. d4) and King's Gambit (2. f4) would be the most aggressive responses, followed by 2. Nf3. Not a huge fan of Italian game, though.

I've had more success with Center Game #2, but I know King's Gambit has its merits, provided that it's accepted.

What are your thoughts?

Well you could look at alot of Pual Morphy's games but you have to understand that you cannot achive an "agressive" if your opponent doesn't want you too. From a Practical perspective if your opponent doesn't know the agressive lines of the king's gambit he won't play them and instead will achive an equal position without any problems, but if your opponent knows the agrisseve lines as black then he'll achive a better position. In short don't play the king's gambit.

The Ruy Lopez is a much better opening with alot of attacking ideas and positional themes.

The Kings gambit will surely help you learn tactics and attacking ideas faster than any opening.

why?

eaguiraud

Because it is full of tactics very early.

andyquibler

Well I would argue the Ruy Lopez has more

eaguiraud

That Imo is the true opening along with the Italian game that begginers should start with.

andyquibler

and you qlso need to define your terms because i'm not entirelly sure what you mean by "tactics"?

eaguiraud

More tactics than the Kings gambit? I am aware that you have a higher rating, but I do believe that at his level the Kings gambit will help him learn faster.

eaguiraud

Tactic is a common word used in the forums and in chess in general (I don't mean to sound rude)

andyquibler

The Ruy lopez is a long term friend that he can keep forever I think the kings gambit is an opening that requires too much work to even get equality vs an experinced player.

eaguiraud

Yes, the Kings gambit is unsound, but at least until he gets to 1500 it is perfectly fine, like a bicycle with learning wheels attached.

andyquibler

like for "tactical" training you solve puzzles I don't understand what that has to do with openings like an opening can be "sharp" but when ýou say there are more tactics I don't quite understand.

eaguiraud

Fine, call it as you like, it is a really sharp opening. My advice to the OP is to play with the Kings gambit, it leads to exciting games.

andyquibler

Look it's all about goals If his end goal is to be 1500 the kings gambit is great! but if he wants to be 1800,2000,2200 then long term it'll harm him more than it'll help.

eaguiraud

Well, I learned with the Kings gambit, I found it useful at first, that does not mean he has to play it forever (I don't play it anymore). Is that so difficult to grasp?

andyquibler

What's funny is it was my first opening too but I wish it wasn't.

Learn from my mistakes, don't switch to every new random opening! master one and get to 1900 in a year :p

eaguiraud

I got to about 1800 in a year, played many openings and finally got settled in one or two after a while. To get better at chess depends on every person, playing many or only one opening is irrelevant, it doesn't matter as long as you are learning.

andyquibler

again it depends what your goal is.
