Benoni defence: Old benoni

Black or White?

2.e5?

I looked at some opening explorers and 2.e5 is the most common move. Surprised me, but I don't play very much anymore.

Is it really a common occurrence?

Czech Benoni is with White playing c4

This is "Old" Benoni

3...d6 would be Semi-Benoni or Blockade variation

This line would transpose with Black playing 7...a6 (driving the bishop away) followed by 8.Bd3 O-O 9.Nc3

Maybe by 8...a6 9.Bd3 Ne8

I think, as White, some good/interesting play here.

Might look at other last move options...but overall I like it.

I was playing white...and this is a line for white against czech benoni...

Czech Benoni is a decent opening, although a bit passive.

Old Benoni is a second rate one, as white has the luxury to occupy the c4 square with a knight. The latest trend which has literally put the whole thing out of business is 3.Nd2! (although 3.e4 first is not much different).
