I’ve had mixed experiences as black with that line. On one hand, it can completely bore you to death and your opponent can outplay you, on the other hand you can play garbage lines against it like a5-a4-a3 at some point and sac some pawns and win. I had a game where I prepared an exchange sac on move 15 in this line. My opponent didnt accept it though 
the game was drawn aftwe I blundered a won endgame in time trouble

it also bores your opponent and there is a maneuver to protect yourself and u were winning right?

No my opponent always played that opening I think, so ig they were used to it. I mean, why would you play an opening that bores you?
I don’t know what you mean by “maneuver to protect yourself”. If there’s something you need to protect yourself against in the mainline, I don’t know it, cuz I almost never play mainline, I play some weird sidelines
