chess.com ratings - how do they compare with USCF?

Just wondering because I'm getting back into chess after a long time.  My rating was once in the 1750 range - that's USCF.  On this site I'm rated 1250 now - can I really be that bad now??  I'm wondering if chess.com's rating are a few hundred points lower than - on average - than USCF's.  Any idea?  Any way to find out the average user rating on this site?

is like comparing an apple to an orange.

Maybe the environment and maybe you don't spend as much time usually

Personally I'm in the 2000 range but I am 1826 in online due to an overload of games

Katie: Okay, thanks.  That's about what I thought.

In my opinion if you were 1750 once you won't ever be too much below that.

I think the average person's rating is between 1100 and 1200.

Was your USCF rating OTB or a Blitz rating? Right now you have a Blitz rating on this site. That can makes all the difference in the world.

iMacChess:  hmm... that was an OTB rating - didn't realize there was a difference.  I think I saw Elo mentioned - does that mean chess.com uses a formula similar to FIDE's?

Philidor2000

btw, I see Carlsen's rating has gone up to 2881 now.

KCO:  great, thanks for the link.

@Philidor2000

kco has the right link.

OTB is a lot different from Blitz. The time controls are totally different. You have a heck of a lot more time to think with OTB. (((OTB up to five hours a game vs Blitz five minutes or less))) So your ratings are going to be totally different...
