I keep playing the french and I play tarrasch and i keep losing against the french. Does anyone know a line that is not too risky?

You need to post some games with analysis so we have an idea of what youre doing right, and wrong.

Agreed. That's why I play the Tarrasch.

Try the exchange variation. 3.exd5. Many French players hate that (myself included) because the open game is more about tactics than knowing lines.

try improving your chess first before playing the french, stick with simple openings like e4 until you get better, your rating is way to low to understand complicated openings

I recommend not playing Nc3. it requires many lines to memorize. Exchange is simplest, So I would recommend Switching to exchange or advance for the time being. Advance is easy to learn, just remember basic ideas. Tarrasch is good but it seems you do not want to play it.

In order to beat the French Defence, you need to outplay the player of the Black pieces. You're not gonna do this in the opening. You need to reach a playable middlegame with imbalances.

@PRESSALTF4 i did not mean that as an insult it is just my opinion your online rating is a little over 1000 are 1100 lead me to believe that you was a beginner and  i felt you should be studying tactics and puzzles to try and improve before moving on to complicated openings

According to Chessbase - Nd2 and Nc3 score much better than e5 or dxe5 in the French.

The statistical differences between the main lines are not substantial enough to draw any conclusions.
