King's Gambit A Challenge From Ponz

Sort:
ponz111

There is another thread regarding the Kings Gambit which [unforunately] has deteriorated.

I would like to explore this venerable opening which has been played for 500 years.

Here is my challenge:  I wish to play about 6 games where I will take the Black side of the Kings Gambit.  These games would be unrated and chess engines are allowed and encouraged.

In other words I am looking for 6 very strong players with very strong chess engines who are willing to take the White side of the Kings Gambit against me in an unrated game.

So, far I have two strong players and am looking for 4 more. If someone wants to play 2 variations of the White side of the Kings Gambit than 5 players will be enough.

Anyone who is interested and feels he meets the requirements  just message me or post on this forum.

This is not a forum to discuss how good or bad is the Kings Gambit.

This is not a forum to critic centaur chess.

Please if you are interested speak up or message me privately.

sorry ponz i hate facing or using kings gambit and im a non prog average rated player

ponz111

I only have two takers so far who are strong enough. It looks like the strong players have decided that after all these 500 years of chess that the Kings Gambit is no longer an opening to  be used at the very highest levels or even high levels.

So, not only does this imply the Kings Gambit is a "wasted White" it implies that the Kings Gambit may lead to an inferior game.

I have talked to some very strong players and most want no part of playing the Kings Gambit as White [against me]

as white i dont like how weak g3 is esp if attacked by Bd6 knight and queen no pieces attacked just the square

ErnstStavroBlofeld1

I will play against you with the King's gambit. Do I challege you or do you challenge me?

ponz111

Ernst sorry I  but I am looking for very strong players who have very strong chess engines.  [similar to the players and chess engines I played against in the Ponziani Challenge of about 3 months ago]

Chess engines, strong chess engines are required for this challenge.

Also it would be me against about 6 very strong players. [not one on one]

ErnstStavroBlofeld1

By having strong chess engines, do you mean using chess engines to help you play?

Yes, I am looking for very strong players with very strong chess engines and the idea is to use the chess engines. This is called Centaur Chess.

In my previous challenge there were several games with national masters with chess engines.

The idea is to test the Kings Gambit with the best possible line up of players with the best chess engines.

Good for you! You are the OP so you get to both make and break the rules for the thread. Nicely done Undecided

ponz111

Grendley,

If you will look at the other thread the OP was disgusted because people were engrossed in disputes with each other [nasty disputes] and also engrossed in a vague attack on Centaur players.

The purpose of this forum is to set up a test of the Kings Gambit and this is one reason it is separate from the other forum.

If you wish to opine on the Kings Gamit here that would be no problem however. Just Please not the vague attacks on Centaurs or the nasty disputes.

I was looking at the KG the other week and noticed that as soon as f4 was played my Chess King 3 mil db showed -0.40 for black.  I used to play it some years ago for kicks and giggles, mostly kicks...to my rear.  Be sure to publish the results and the games.

Yes,will publish the results if this gets going. [just as I published the results of the Ponziani Challenge about 3 months ago]

JohnClair  Wow! are you nasty! What you seem to not realize that humans playing with chess engines are very often stronger than just chess engines alone.

You are too nasty for this forum.

Is 1911 USCF "strong enough"?

It is borderline however

It could be strong enough if you have a very good chess engine, pls message me. Presume you mean yourself.

You sure seem to draw the kooks out of the woodwork David.  I don't understand that, maybe your sense of humor appears abrasive in these settings.

My sense of humor is very odd for a SEPTUAGENARIAN!

I think actually it´s the opening itself which draws them out. There´s something about playing the King´s Gambit as White (or the Falkbeer as Black) which has a similar effect to the 6th tequila on a Friday night, ie euphoria, subjective invincibility with a latent joyful aggressiveness, coupled with the feeling that this is going to be the night of all nights (or game of all games). Every time.

So that´s the sort who´ll honour King´s Gambit threads with their presence; I should know, I´m one myself, and a bit sad that there´s no way I would pass Ponz´ strict entrance exam. I wish him much success, both with retaining some semblance of order in what promises to become a pretty motley thread, and with his experiment.
