After 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e3 b5 4. a4 Ba6, try b3 at some point, if not immediately. After cxb3, capture with axb4 (there is a double attack on the black b5 pawn after black plays cxb3) and capture the b-pawn later with the queen.
Sometimes, the mistakes that accompany black trying to hold on too hard to the pawn result in the loss of a piece for that pawn. There are sometimes immediate tactics relating to moving the knight to e5 and the queen at f3, which either targets the a8 rook or the f7 pawn, which is possible because of both too much time spent by black defending the c4 pawn, or because black playing b5 exposes black's a8 rook.
Hi, I am sorry but as a novice I am unsure as to how to proceed from a relatively simple variation of the queens gambit accepted. After d4, d5, c4, dxc4, e3, b5, a4, ba6, what is the correct progression such that I will be able to regain the lost material please? I don't really know what to do against this move and have made more than a few errors trying to cope with it. T
Thank you, any advice is greatly appreciated!
