Would you be black or white?

Duras Gambit: German Opening that can lead into the Duras Gambit: Bavarian Attack (for black)...

JuergenWerner

So what do you guys/gals think?...

Ingwerjunkee

BLACK Nightmare! Its showing all the donots you have to avoid in the important stage of the game. If any of the Fide Top ten would be able to end in draw as black side i would change my mind but i wont. The other way is that some loud shouting it German opening is unsound and hides some lack in Character of the speaker.

Ingwerjunkee

two pawns and no pompensation in the development of pieces. This is hardly not to call a gambit.

JuergenWerner

No, black has a direct attack on white's king side for the 2 pawns and will eventually control the center...

Ingwerjunkee

Any way show some draw or won games in the upper level class! No Fideplayer would try such a piece donating nightmare! Show some instructional ans end this nonprofund bla bla! Thanks!

Once, in a blitz game, I pre-moved 2.Nf3 after 1.e4. (my opponent had just played 2...e5 like a million times in our previous games). What a surprise when I saw 2...f5 and then of course fxe4. I plodded on with 3.Ng5, and then realized that I had unwittingly transposed into an uncommon line called the Lisitsin Gambit. Come to think of it, most of my moves are made 'unwittingly'....... Anyway, the usual sequence is 1.Nf3 f5 2.e4 fxe4 3.Ng5, sort of a Dutch-Reti thing. I believe it's quite playable for black. However, if you play f5 after 1.e4, don't expect to see 2.Nf3. Expect to see 2.exf5 and a bad game.

After the game, my opponent told me he had meant to play 1...e5, but that 1...f5 was a mouse slip!>>>

That position in #823, after ...d5 and ... h6 who is better? I can't see anything for white other than 6. e5. Looks like black has to swap knights and end up with a massive hole in the k-side. Better for white maybe?

Some brief analysis :

Optimissed

Well, after 6. e5 ...hg 7. ef ...ef, I thought perhaps 8. c4.
After 6. Nf3, black's game is definitely very difficult and it does look like the real reason why ...d5 isn't played.

poucin

I don't know where u saw d5 isn't played, it has been played by some GM, including Korchnoi...

After 4.d3, if i give some stats (according megadatabase 2019) :

On 864 games after 4.d3,

- 4...e3, 275 games, 57.8%

- 4...e5, 238 games, 53.4%

- 4...d5, 131 games, 46.2%

Then other side lines...

We could wonder why black scores so much with d5 : I don't know, I think there are few games where white played like the lines I gave.

Optimissed

If you look for links, there are comparatively few games where ...d5 is played in the sequence we are discussing. Maybe it just proves what I've been arguing for ages .... that GMs get where they are often just due to tactical ability. A positional player wouldn't want to get into that position as black.
