Yup, Greco posted that analysis back in 1620.
this is actually an opening named Ruy Lopez
and black isn't forced to play a6. he can try Nf6, Berlin Defense, or Bc5 ,Classical Defense, with an even game...
I know i am 250 pts lower rated than you but...
and 5 ...Be7 makes no sense when Black can play Nxe4.
By far the most common opening trap is the one that on the average of once a week an opponent falls for. the following 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Be2 0-0 6. 0-0 Nbd7? 7.e5 dxe5 8.e6! fxe6?? 9.Ng5 wins a piece or the exchange.
I'm not falling for it. 8.e6! is more of a ????? move.
Don't be shy run that by me one more time.
The Elephant Trap is the only trap i have ever managed to use successfully, and i still lost the game.
I like that Fried Liver Gone Bad Trap.
There is a HUGE amount of bologny in this thread.
