What do you think of this opening variation??

Sort:
CoenJones

I think it might be a Ruy Lopez variation?? Anybody know the name??

LimpSpider

Ruy Lopez, I think.

Tao999

http://www.chess.com/explorer/ will tell you these kinds of things, this position for example is listed as:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6

CoenJones

yeah, but whats the variation in the brackets??? Sorry I put them in brackets, but I son''t know how to delete moves

CoenJones

oh ok, thanks so much!!

kikvors

As far as I know, 3.d3 doesn't have a name. If white continues with g3 and Bg2, it might become a King's Indian Attack.

CoenJones

ok. Yeah, I couldn't find it on the database, so I though it may have a name that somebody knew. Thanks though!!

C60: Ruy Lopez  (Quite popular!:)

3...Nf6 9,000
34.9% 40.5% 24.7%
CoenJones

hahahahaha, I mean the idea of the bishop attacking the queen, that part.

He edited his post. Changed the diagram entirely post~#1 and has made nonsense of his own thread.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6

Is what was originally shown.

Irontiger

Certainly not the Ruy Lopez, which is characterised by 3.Bb5. (EDIT : in the current diagram, showing 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d3 (?) b6 (?) 4.Bg5)

I don't know the name of 3.d3, but it certainly isn't a very good opening. 3...b6 looks dubious too, in this move order.

netzach

He edited it @ Irontiger.

Look at the responses/comments.

Was: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6

originally.  Which is of course the Ruy Lopez :)

Yes, I did edit it, I knew that what wasn't in the brackets was the Ruy Lopez, I wanted to know what the opening in the brackets was. Everyone said ruy lopez, so I got rid of what I didn't want recognised, and just made it the brackets stuff.

netzach

I see.

Just looks like a crappy side variation of a reversed Philidor, which itself is at least fairly crappy even when well played, e.g., with Be2 instead of Bg5.

Borneo_Chess

In post #22, 1.e4 c6 2.d3 d5 3.Nf3 de4 4.Nfd2?? loses a central pawn, undevelops a piece, and gives Black a decisive edge. That opening is a bust.
