What's the best move order here?

Hey guys, I played a game recently and I was using the King's Gambit. My opponent played a move that I would like to know what the best move order for white is here. Here is the position..

Thanks, M-W-R

As far as I know, 4.Nc3 first is the correct move order, to prevent ...d5

Oh really? Thanks!

The correct move order is 2. Nf3, so you're unable to play the awful f4.

Thanks, appreciated.

It's not bad honestly, you can get great positions from that opening.

I was only kidding, really.

5.exd5 is the best way to play that position.  Seems like a decent defense for Black, though.

I realized, Scott.

I think it is Nc3, BTW scott is giving good advice, you should listen to him....

It looks like exd5 is probably best.  Other options (Bd3, e5, Nc3, etc.) seem a little slow. (e.g. after e5 g5 is annoying, Bd3 Bg4 threatening to win a pawn via dxe4 and taking on d4, and Nc3 gets into dubious lines like Nc3 dxe4, Nxe4 Qe7, Qe2 Bf5, and black has the initiative...)

I would push the pawn e5 then take his pawn with my bishop.

I am listening to him Smile, I just didn't notice that he was kidding before.

I almost always play exd5 there. Smile
