White starts D4 with follow up C4.

Can you please name me the props and cons of each opening and which in your opinion is a better, stronger, more of a solid choice for black. Please state your rating as well , official or just an online, so I have an idea how much you are familiar with chess. Thank you.

1. Rat defense , lisbon gambit.

2.Slav Indian , slav defence modern.

Speaking as one who has fluctuated between 2000 and 2150 OTB for years on end, when you say the "Slav Indian, slav defense modern", what do you mean?

Do you mean what many call the "Slav Grunfeld"?  d5, c6, and fianchetto the Kingside with g6/Bg7/Nf6?  Or something else?

Either way, barring some major garbage like the first one, clearly this is a better option.  The gambit you list in the first one is horrible.

Actually, after 1.d4 d6, there is slight concern for 2.c4 in that it might not actually be very good, and that White should play 2.e4.  After 2...e5!, known also as the "No Name Defense", Black actually had a slightly plus score, and that score goes up if White plays 3.dxe5 (3.Nf3 is better, but Black is still perfectly fine), the move 3...Nc6 is total garbage.  Play 3...dxe5 4.Qxd8+ Kxd8 and the fact that White's c-pawn blocks any possibilities of Bc4, and advancing the c-pawn again without causing major weaknesses is also an issue.

So based on the exact lines you give, I'd have to say Number 2 if I understand it correctly.  But kill the stupid "Lisbon gambit" part off of number 1 and number 1 is actually better.  However, you will need something if White plays 2.Nf3.  Now 2...e5 doesn't work, and playing just for the sheer sake of trying to force e5 is also useless.

1...d6:  Move by Move gives a good explanation of these lines, including the "No Name Defense" or "Rat Defense".

So to make it clear:

Slav Defence D4 Nf6 , C4 C6

D11 Slav Defence: Modern continuation after C4 C6, Nf3 D5

I'm familiar with Slav and Slav modern, but only have seen Rat defence and don't know much about it.

Define "stronger". wink.png The strongest openings will always be the ones that lead to the positions you play the best, so it varies from player to player.

I've played both Rat and Slav a lot and to me their "strength" seems just about equal. I don't know anything about Lisbon gambit, but just from looking at the first 4 moves, it seems shaky to me and not really suitable for serious games, only for blitz/bullet.

Aashayyyyyyy

None of these.. The Queens gambit overtook all of them

Of those two choices, Slav is more solid and secure, like a coiled spring.

Though, personally, I prefer the Nimzo/QID system. If white isn't careful, black can really put him in a positional bind.
