Top four so close they're practically tied.  White has no advantage in the Nimzo-Larsen but it's still a great way to get an off-beat yet sound game.

Swindlers_List

I always found it strange people rate 1.c3 so low, surely it is better than h3/a3/na3, it will usually just become a colle or sort of reverse caroy thing

Franklin31113

I dont like c3 because it doesn't'do anything beside get the queen out early wich is bad plus it remove the Nc3 square and h3 and a3 is a waiting move when you want to be black you can move your pawn to a3 or h3 so it pretty much don't do anything so your sorta black but for c3 you use the knight spot.

Swindlers_List

I would contest that 1.c3 is a more useful waiting move than 1.h3 and even 1.a3 in many cases.

personally I would play 1.c3 all the time, if it wasn't for the fact I cant find a system I like with it against a Kings indian style setup.

Franklin31113

ok fine i'll listen to you because your rating is 1773 how about you make a top 20 chart?

I wonder why you ranked c4 #12.

Theres nothing wrong with that. I would do that myself

I find e4 better then d4

Top level engines think d4 is better than e4. Its just a matter of preference

1.d4 157
56.7% 12.7% 30.6%
1.e4 19
57.9%   36.8%

this is your stat you seem to win more using e4 but you do lose more using e4

pentiumjs

I'd personally clump a number of moves together--like in backgammon theory, half a percentage point here or there doesn't convince me one option is notably better than another.  So this looks about right:

1) d4/e4/Nf3/c4

2) b3/g3

3) f4

4) e3/d3

5) c3

6) Nc3

7) b4

8) g4

9) Nh3/Na3

10) a3/h3

11) a4/h4

12) f3

I'd go for something like this

20. f3

19. g4

18. h4

17. a4

16. Nh3

15. Na3

14. h3

13. a3

12. b4

11. f4

10. e3

9. d3

8. c3

7. Nc3

6. b3

5. g3

4. Nf3

3. c4

2. e4

1. d4

I like pentiumjs's idea, but Nc3 is missing Tongue Out

Franklin31113

thx for all your option I thought nobody would post anything.

In my list, I'd draw the line of "playable" as being the top 13.

Its not very accurate, since I only have 19 games with me playing e4

you should play 3 e4 games and 3 d4 games and see which one you win more at thats what i'm going to do

Franklin31113

ok fine im going to try it you can do whatever you want.

You might think this is awkward, but the english is one of my favourite openings in tournaments, recently.

The english is 1.c4
