Counter-intuitively, resussitating a dormant thread (after a period of slumber, say 2 months), may be just the antidote against new ones being started. Obviously, it will attract equivalent comments from the previous cycle, BUT ... it may reduce the overall number of threads in existence.

This could be automated. If on each cycle, a topic still attracts say 10 non-LOL comments, then it qualifies for awakening next time around, otherwise it gets relegated to forum-hell. (Oh, hang on, we're already in it.) "Abandon hope all ye who (press) ENTER here."

this site can have a sticky tread titled "Read Before You Post!!!"

so new members can read a question and a fact which is continuously made

so they won't make another useless same topic.
