This is bulldog chess with witch game between @Nnomi (White) and @Martin0 (Black).

This game will follow the correspondence rules posted here.

Time Control: 3 days/move

Timeout Warnings: 24 hours to make a move after a warning. Maximum 3 warnings. Refreshes every 40th move

Vacation Time: 14 days. Refreshes every 40th move.

Rated: This is a rated game.

Setup: See image below

null

Note the position of Black's king and queen are switched compared to classical chess. This is so the guard and witch are equal distance to each player's king and queen.

Pieces:
Guard (G) - Moves and captures like a king.

null

Witch (W) - The rules for the witch can be found here.

null

Castling:
The rules of castling are similar as in classical chess. However, with the board 10 squares wide, the king travels three squares rather than two. The rook finishes adjacent to the king. All squares between the king and rook must be unoccupied, with the exception of transparent pieces (see witch rules).

Promotion: Pawns can promote to guard and witch in addition to queen, rook, bishop or knight.

Other rules of this game are identical with rules of classical chess.

@Nnomi will play white.

Good luck!

I now wonder what point value a witch has. I definitely feel like it is stronger than a minor piece, thats why I'm trading here. I would probably rank her as a 4 point piece.

Conditional move: if you play hxg6 OR Nxg6 then please play 6. Nd3 for me

The value of the witch is an interesting topic. It has synergy with long ranged pieces and likes closed positions. Good in the opening/middlegame and pretty bad in the endgame.

My current line of thinking is that a trade of bishop vs witch in the opening is not that great since it makes your own witch weaker to have 1 less long ranged piece to work with.

I think many overvalues the witch because they are not used to play with it and therefore makes blunders to it. And also they don't realize how much weaker a piece becomes when it has no capture abilities.

In case your interested, here is another game I played where I allowed my opponent to trade bishop vs witch: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-variants/big-dog-2-game-jamesagadir-vs-martin0
