How do you ensure that both players get questions of comparable difficulty and that there will be diverse subjects?
All questions go to both players, and whoever answers first gets to move. If neither player knows the answer, another question needs to be made.
As for diverse subjects, I don't think this game can realistically be rated. The supervisor/moderator (the guy who comes up with the questions) is still human, and the game depends heavily on him/her. It will also be hard to play this as daily chess, or even online at all. This is just for fun, so yes preferably there will be diverse questions but that is up to the players. Again, since this can't be rated then it doesn't matter too much.

This sounds interesting.
Except you read it, you didn't hear it.

This variant lacks creativity, originality, and novelty. Sorry.
However, consider the following variant I have created, called RAR Chess. The variant was co-created by me and RM Joseph Truelson. Charith Sanku had a big contribution to the rules of the game. The starting position of the variant appears as follows:
As you can see, both White and Black have their bank rank entirely shelved with kings and their second with pawns. Here are the rules of the game:
1. The pieces move as they normally do in chess.
2. Kings can be sacrificed or traded so there is no such thing as a stalemate or illegal moves unless rule 1 is violated.
3. When a pawn reaches the last rank, it must promote to a king or under-promote to a knight or bishop because a major piece would be too o.p.
4. The side who runs out of kings first loses.
5. Once the position becomes legal, the game transforms into regular chess.
Yes, it's not too sophisticated. However, I don't see how FizzyBand's posting the rules had any negative effects. Neither of us even claimed that the variant is good or original.

Trivia Chess does seem quite fun to play, but I only said it lacks the necessary characteristics to be a successful variant.
My friends (@Bad_Dobby_Fischer,@KbloxK, and @CoolGuy900) and I have developed an interesting chess variant revolving around trivia and chess.
