It’s not hope. It’s more like grim determination to cause John to be annoyed.
All he has to do is do his best to remain healthy and alive enough to continue logging on.
I am just barely healthy enough. It has been a bad flu season.
Btw, I love playing in winning positions, so it doesn't really annoy me. I just want to put @hitthepin out of his misery!

I forced the trade of rooks, and thus the easily winning endgame, 33 moves ago! I wish there was an engine to analyse this with after the game, to see if I missed a quicker way to mate.
Of course, I do rather enjoy this.
