Have you ever been assigned the standard starting position?

I'm new to Chess 960 and was watching a Youtube video on the rules. It was mentioned that one of the 960 possible starting positions includes the standard chess starting position.

It occurred to me that what this means is that 1 in 960 games played on chess.com (and anywhere, of course) that are "chess 960" variants are actually regular games of chess.

Have any of you experienced this? It seems that it would be "relatively" common if one in a thousand games are standard games. Do any of you have links to these games?

I'm not sure why exactly, but it seems so weird (and cool) to think about playing a 960 game of chess and having it be the standard starting position. That would be trippy.

If your new, I could see thinking that, but I always feel let down when the rooks, queen and most of the pieces are in their regular positions.  I play 960 speed chess at lichess.com, so have a lot of 960 games, and this happens with some regularity.  Never seen the exact normal start position, but I'd probably be annoyed once the shock settled.  (FYI, one also tends to get a little sick of the bishops being in the corner, since that impacts play so dramatically and is so common.)

I appreciate your response Art, thank you for that insight. I didn't realize that lichess offered live 960, I'll have to give it a shot.

Its actually lichess.org, not .com.  You kind of do have to look at how active the site is when you log on, and if you happen to log on at a very inactive time, it may not be worth waiting for a 960 opponent.  Provided you do that, the wait for a game isnt very long -- under a minute.

Is this similat to "assume the position"?

"Have you ever been assigned the standard starting position?"
