Therefore @KeSetoKaiba beat @Hikaru and is a GM

Change my mind

Whoa, I didn't know that @AttilaTurzo won against @Hikaru before. That makes my "Nakamura number" 2 right? (silly measure based off of chess "Fischer Number" or how many opponents through you it took to beat Bobby Fischer in Chess. If I'm not mistaken, then winning against Fischer would be "1" and winning against someone who won against Fischer is "2" and so on).

By the way, @AttilaTurzo was nice and sportsman about it - but to his credit, it was an online simul where he was playing like 20 opponents or so at once. I actually blundered into a "book trap" that I studied earlier that same week, but forget in the heat of the moment! (d'oh!). I got lucky with the tactic to get their Queen grin.png The reason I didn't resign earlier (although I was close to that point) was because I had enough active pieces (or potential to get them more active) to try for counterplay.

Awesome that my Nakamura Number is 2 lol, but how did you come across this fact randomly? grin.png

Also for the "book trap," wasn't it more of just a blunder? or am I missing something lol

Nope grin.png Besides, following that logic, then I should get something for winning against you too NM @rychessmaster1 wink.png

(It was a casual 3 min blitz game and anything can happen...do we believe in miracles?)

Aren't book traps usually ways of illustrating a "blunder?" Maybe I'm the one missing something? lol I don't have the time to pull up the game (although I recall the opening from memory), but this is a known trap in the London System I fell into. The Bishop move I played is a tactical sacrifice that is typically justified tactically by ...Qxb2 and me getting the Rook in the corner...problem here...I get checkmated with Qc8# in this move order - my move is sound only AFTER ...Nc6 is played.

So I guess more of a "book trap" since it is a studied sequence. I knew they could take my Bishop when I played that move - just got my opening lines confused in the moment is all xD

NobleElevator

ah I see, I didn't remember the Qxb2 trap lol
