APHASIA Dementia?

  • #1

. . . It started with the loss of short term memory . . . Sometimes it takes a while until the doctors say what it is . . .

Finally the doctors decided the name of the dementia my wife has . . .

APHASIA dementia . . . it is the sometime loss of the words to use about short term memory . . .

There aren't any meds for it . . . but it will progress slowly compared to other dementias . . .

    = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

My wife had started some memory problems and that's why the post . . . I am playing chess on line. I was teaching chess at our main Library but took the summer off. I will teach for 14 weeks starting in September . . .

    I bowl ten pins several times a week . . .

. . . My annual physical was done at KAISER, blood test and ldl/hdl panel which were all low . . .

    The doctor searched and searched and couldn't find a problem . . . blood pressure 126/64 . . . weight 158 . . . Funny they weigh me with my clothes and shoes on . . .

    I EVEN had prostrate check . . . I'm taking only one med for acid reflex . . .

I Go to 24/7 GYM to bike for 15 minutes only 1100 Rotations and knee presses 50 Times . . .

Another year gone im 79 years old . . .

Hopefully I will be okay since I also eat lot of vegetables, no dairy products at all, eating meat is minimal . . . if it had a a mother and two eyes I try not to put it in your mouth . . .

So I hope I'm doing the right things I wish my wife would join me but she is set in her ways . . . She walks a little each day . . . I'm doing all the driving now . . .

    Thanks for reading . . .

Studies show a ketogenic diet can slow and even reverse symptoms of memory loss and cognitive impairment throughout all the dementia stages

..thats a known problem. your urine goes back into your blood and than into your brain causing loss of memory. but dont exaggerate on chess to. if you go above 2000 GodMaster can kill you with his innocent urea problem like or Amentia. He is jealous!

There is no more medical testing nor any meds that will be given to her because none are available.. . . Looks like we are on our own now. . . .

My wife's condition has not progressed much but her acceptance is stable. . . no meds are being taken for the Aphasia. . .

I gave up bowling on Wednesdays and my away 8 hour away from town matches. . .

It is now September I started bowling in a league 2 1/2 hours away from my wife . . . she is okay with that . . .

I am teaching chess for kids at the LIBRARY each Tuesday afternoons for fourteen weeks it is only 2 hours away from my wife. . .

She does asks "what are we doing tomorrow?" repeatedly as she is trying to remember. . .

We go to grandchildren soccer games. . . She goes with her girl friends out to eat and chat they pick her up as she gave up driving in May. . .

I stared to get depressed because my activities had diminished to nil. . . but I started reading more. I purchased two Kasparov books, not chess books but like memoirs about his business chess and computer matches and. . .

On some weekends I bowl local matches so I can be home in short time. . .

I know things are changing. . . I hope I can cope with it . . . Sorry I vented a little since there isn't anyone else to tell what is going on with me. . .

Perhaps visiting a local church or calling a local pastor for a home visitation might be helpful.

    Keep fighting the good fight.

If the doctor could identify the cause of this disease.Whether it's cause is physiology or metabolic. The solution depend on it's cause. If it's cause is metabolic or hormonal ,the safe alternative medication might helped. There are herbal or sea animal (deep sea fish) treatment perhaps.

DENVERHIGH: Sorry to hear of your difficulties. I have a Uncle in his late 80's who is developing memory problems. A relative of mine who is in her mid-60's like me is having to take the lead in looking after her father ( my Uncle ) but it is not easy. Best Wishes in your work to look after your wife.

We and the doctors discounted the use of ketogenic for vegetarian diet . . . My wife is 100 lbs, 110/68 blood pressure. We were married in 1961, 56 years, four grown boys, seven grandchildren . . .

Thank you for all your suggestions . . .

    1. Always have someone to check on you
    2. Keep post-it notes on your refrigerator
    3. Turn cellphone alarms on, for dates/events set on your calendar App

Try taking up Bridge together. There should be a club somewhere in your area.
