Difference in rating to lichess?

  • #1

    Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone that is also on lichess would be able to share their experience of the different rating systems? How similar are they? Are you better on one or the other? Any other comments?

I just met someone who says they only use lichess and we were (I'm guessing) at a similar level (OTB both win one game as white lol). I will eventually find out their rating so I would like to know in advance how similar we really are.

    Thank you.

In my experience, Lichess is slightly more inflated than Chess.com, maybe by 100 to 150 points.  If you're 2000 at Lichess, you're probably 1850 - 1900 here.

Wow.  The timing of this question is uncanny.  I started exploring lichess this past week, and my classical 10/0 rating over there is in the  high 1700's.  While my blitz rating here, my first love is chess.com, is in the low 1500's.

So I just determined on my own, that what really matters is your percentile ranking!  Not rating.  Over here I'm in 90.something percentile.  While over there, I'm in the 85.4 percentile.

That's how I figured things out.

I thought we weren't supposed to compare chess.com with competitor sites?

@SeniorPatzer The main reason that I am considering ratings is because I thought that it was more likely for rating to come up.

@macer75 I know that you can't use chess.com for external advertising. Is that what you were talking about?

I am in no way endorsing lichess or any other sites, or trying to persuade anyone to go between one site or another.

This person just mentioned that they were on lichess. I am only on chess.com. The only way I have to compare our skill level is two OTB games. I was just looking for a more accurate way to determine how close my chess level is with my new friend.

Mentions are okay if it's about a game you played there recently or something like that. Any comparisons, however, are not okay, and unfortunately asking how ratings there compare to ratings here is included in that. Chess.com policy is that any such comparison is not allowed in our own forums - it's a matter of it leading to claims and counter claims and arguments that are essentially irreconcilable, much like politics or religion.

I am now locking this thread.

    Thanks,
