You can also DM mods but unless you have screenshot proof they might have trouble finding it.
Have there been any consequences for the people you reported?
Yes. Up to muting or the whole account bye-bye. Try to care less about these clowns, they are inevitable in any large online anonymous community
If next time it happens, you take a screenshot, so you can do this, wait until the game finishes, then don't leave the page and take a screenshot, to avoid triggering the abandonment timer or having a large time disadvantage
Yes, chess.com does great with their chess.com support and taking looking into all reports. The only main drawback I have with this is that there’s never a reply for regular reports. I know it’s because chess.com has so many millions of members, so they don’t take the time to respond to each report, but in my experience, they do well to take action for every case. It’s just that the action actually taken is between chess.com and the person in the wrong, so you’ll likely never know. That’s because they could be warned, or muted, or some other action you won’t see; the only way you could know for sure is if their account was closed and labeled the reason why (typically either “abuse” or violating the “fair play” policy).
You should take screenshots as evidence when report if you are able to, but it’s not a requirement; it’s more of a nice-to-have thing if you do have it.
As for getting unlucky with trash-talkers etc. it might just be an unlucky streak, but it could also be that you are more likely to get matched with these types of players if you frequently abandon games or other “poor sport” actions. If that doesn’t apply to you, then it’s just unlucky for now.
I reported those players; however, their accounts are still active to this day. Does Chess.com actually review these reports, and what is the threshold for taking action? I really enjoy the game, and I’d rather not disable chat, especially since there are also a lot of genuinely nice people here.
for me simply like going to their profile and clicking report doesnt work at all. that only seems to work when multiple people have reported the same person in a short span of time
but yeah when it's comparatively severe abuse such as harassment or verbal abuse then i attach screenshots and username and all on the chessica bot thing and connect to human support, then they always do get permanently muted/banned

Moderators can't do anything with chats or screenshots. Those should be reported directly to staff.

If a member is warned, you wouldn't have any indication that staff responded to a report. If they were muted, you wouldn't know unless they were active socially and their content was hidden.
Permanent muted and banning is reserved for extreme cases and potentially repeat offenders.
Hi community,
I’m not sure if I’m constantly getting matched with the wrong people in the low-ELO world, but I’ve been involved in several matches where opponents verbally abused me. It wasn’t just light banter or a bit of trash talk, it became personal and was just a really unpleasant experience.
