I am allowed to defend lost positions, without worry of being reported, correct?

And just FYI, those "penalty minutes" were him just sitting on his moves for those minutes. Once he called me "stupid american" I figured it was a small reason to report him. I lost on time trying to find that stalemate.

You cant be reported for not resigning but you can be reported for waiting all your time and wasting the time of your opponent

Altrough it's understanable that he's upset but he was not supposed to make verbal abuse

Also can you please delete your opponent name ? No accusations in public

I don't resign unless it's absolutely certain that I can't hold a draw.  It's THEIR job to beat me, I'm not going to just resign and throw it in their laps.  I wouldn't do that unless it was totally obvious I'm going to lose and I'm just wasting our time.  If someone wants to beat me, they have to WORK for it, even if the game is already "won".  This is the point of view you should have too.

Why do you engage idiots in the chat, "stupid American"?

And to answer your question, no, you can't defend lost positions without worry of being reported, but you can (and should) not give a rat a** about it.

You are not required to resign, I wouldn't be chatting during a game though.

chessterchief

you can be reported for anything, but read the fair play policy if you want to know what you can be banned for.

I'm similar; as a beginner, I like to try and defend a lost position as a learning process and see how they capitalise on my mistake... Unless the situation is dire, then I will resign

Please, for gods sake, don't be an idiot and use profanity.

I'm reporting you.

Also, OP, please remove name of the other person, and you can report them for stalling.

It's not profanity - it's a common expression if you get around enough. And your name calling isn't any less offensive.

There is no obligation to resign in a lost position. You can play it right out until mate, if you choose.

If someone is annoying you in the chat, just turn off chat in your profile settings.

But then what would we post about?

The Chess.com site condones playing a lost position...as long as you are not just stalling. You can point them to this link from the help system on this site.

https://support.chess.com/article/676-is-it-rude-to-resign-or-should-i-play-to-checkmate

Furthermore, the lesson section of chess.com gives strategies on how to get to a draw/stalemate from a losing position. They teach you how to do it and suggest you do it.

https://www.chess.com/lessons/forcing-moves/saving-draws

So let them report all they want. This website clearly condones playing to the end. Make them earn the win.
