I was Criticised by opponent for not resigning when I blew a whole piece in the opening?

Absolutely no obligation to resign, ever.

Just don't abandon the game or run your clock out because that makes you a total w*nker. If you want to quit, resignation is the ONLY acceptable alternative.

heck yeah... totally annoying and childish

Just turn of chat its n or that big of deal

It isn't about chat. It's about someone running out the clock instead of just resigning. It's not a state affair. It is annoying and childish.

Keep playing. It’s not over until it’s over. All it takes is one wrong move from your opponent and you could win. This has happened to me multiple times and I have ended on top.

Play on and tip don't fall for traps again

I continued playing even after loosing the queen....never resign...fight till the last move...till you are mated continue to fight.... i have won a game after making 100 moves !!!

Personally, I rarely resign. Sometimes when the position is absolutely hopeless, but even then a) opponents sometimes blunder stalemates b) practice at playing defensively is useful.

But certainly, going a minor piece down 12 moves in - there is no need or expectation to resign, you could easily come back from there, especially if you have 2 pawns in compensation.
