"first": care/don't care?

Dont care.

grumpmcgump

I view "firsters" like any other troll, since firsting is a lot like trolling:  it only matters if someone cares.  I try not to feed the firsters by caring.  Put me in for "Don't care".

I find it incredibly annoying to have to sift through several pages of inane comments such as, 'first!' 'this was easy,' or 'I like turtles' before finding something slightly relevant to the posted topic.  Judging by the relatively low ratings of the people who get off spouting this nonsense, one can easily see where these mouth-breathers set their priorities.

An easy solution to this would be to order the comments in reverse chronological order so that all the drivel gets swiftly buried under newer, hopefully less inane drivel; thereby at least rendering the dreaded 'first' comment completely useless.

So yes, I DO care and wish people would stick to writing only things related to the topic at hand.  Reserve your 'first' comments for the failblog.org, where they belong.

I agree with you on the failblog.org one. The rest I don't care.

I've already voted, but I just wanted to point out/ask something. Many people say stuff about "not seeing the solution until they've finished the puzzle". Isn't that solved by not looking at the discussion before you solve it? I mean, that's what I do. If I get really stuck, I just press the "help" button and keep on thinkin'. So the puzzle is finished before I get to see any of the comments, if I take the time to look at any of them at all.

Not to be wishy-washy but I find it annoying and understand why people do it so I tolerate it.  It is kind of a game in a game - especially for the kids.  But particularly on harder puzzles when I want to see the logic behind the moves, I like to read the intelligent posts.  All the firsts get in the way.  I wish it would stop - but it is largely harmless.

What I find particularly annnoying are all the members typing "easy", or worse, the ones that insult the puzzle designers.  I don't care if you thought the puzzle was too easy or "beneath you".  The easy puzzles are intended to remind players of fundamentals, like pins, forks, or skewers, or to guide new or not so good players (like me).  Besides most people are probably lying when they say easy - I've seen someone say easy on a 16 move puzzle that was the most complicated puzzle I've ever seen on chess.com.  These should be deleted from the post and those that insult the puzzle designers are being disrespectful - they should risk banning if they don't stop.

Thanks for the rant - sorry for the novel. :)

i think it's pointless and kinda dumb to do so. as well as posts like "done", "easy", and others arguing with them. that's exactly what it is - showing off and atracting the attention, even though lame and off topic.

i read the comments section under the puzzle just because i want to find some thoughts about the puzzle, alternate moves and explanations.

and one last thing, i'm not really a forum chatter, but are there any moderators here? or maybe it would be a good idea for admins to work out a small 'report' button, for completely off topic or offensive or other negative posts so that it could be deleted or maybe the poster could recieve a penalty, for let's say disabling the ability to comment for a week, sending an alerting PM, or applying some filters for the post..

anyway guys, peace, enjoy the game ;]

I dont like it because im there to read posts. Thats really the only reason people scroll down. Its not fame because no one ever looks at the name of the person who posted. Just think, there are thousands of posts on this site, and every one have a first and a second post and a 99th post. That means there are thousands of wasted space that everyone has to skip over. Its annoying because its pointless. I want to read "content" not "crap".

If everyone was an immature, spotlight seeking little kid and did stuff like that, then we might as well remove the posting section because it is wandering away from the actual topic. Why read a topic and go to comments and post not about the topic. Thats like the rick-rolled on youtube, or posting about spiderman on an ironman video.

Does anyone here see a 30 yr old going around posting "first" on everything? I dont think so, what i get in my head when i see something like that is a 12 yr old sitting at the computer.

Whats more annoying then "first" which i think you should focus on more is when people say "easy". Theres hordes more that post "easy" than "first".

So put me down as "care".

DuchessD

I don't care about first. It's juvenile, and if someone wants to be seen as juvenile, that's fine.

I don't like when people post "easy". That's just bragging, and frankly, I don't care if you found it easy. Say something intelligent about the puzzle or don't say anything at all. Don't make me go through pages of "easy" to find the one person who bothered to make a point of what would happen if you tried something else - which is quite useful.

Not everyone on here has been playing chess for years - some of us are still new and still learning. Respect is lacking.

 i care

I don't like posts saying: "First", "second", "easy" ...

All of these posts makes harder to read (several pages) the comments about movements and explanations about the puzzle. That's the real interest in reading the posts, in my honest opinion.

I thank to the people who give us another puzzle on Sunday instead of saying: "First Page".

JTLindskogHageman

you only care for the people that give an answer you like, how silly is that? you've got almost 2000 views and not even 100 answer of which 40% unclear and 30 defo doesn't care. you´ve got 20 post that care of 2000 views = 1%.

Answer: almost nobody cares, destroy thread and pick a new topic!

Matthew11

It's like saying " I don't have a life or a job so I'm sitting at my computer until 12:00am so I can write "first!" on the daily puzzle and hope some one will think I'm great for it." Write me down as care.

kadigabi

I hate these type of first, second etc. comments. So useless. Warn then ban is the solution.

The staff have tried this (by deleting posts) is just not practical to do this.

1) I don't only care for the people that give an answer I like, it's just that I give a two answer question and some people don't give me an actual answer so It's annoying because there needs to either be a majority of votes in "care" or "don't care" which there isn't.

2) I work out % by how many people have voted, not viewed.

3) I do agree that it isn't a very good topic so I am thinking about starting a new topic but I will keep this one up.

4) I saw that someone had done a topic of "song titles in a chess world" so I thought that I could do "film titles in a chess world". What do you think?
