If you don't want to play with those newly introduced bots, then scroll down to the bottom, and select the "Engine" option.
The old style difficulty bar will appear.
And if you wanna play 960 with the engine, then after chosen your desired strength just click on "Custom" and change the type to 960.
Play Vs. Computer has been made all cutesy and complicated.

Vs Computer format change -- the new screen design makes the active board smaller. I like to play on an iPhone that fits in my pocket- a 2017 SE. Please give me back a board that fills the screen without all the frippery. Thank you.
Thank you @Abhinav0121. I'm glad I didn't see your answer till just now. I was annoyed at first when it changed, but then I figured it out, and the new format has more variety.

Okay, "chess-dot-com" just e-mailed to me the announcement of the "New" Vs. Computer design, apparently in response to my Forum posts.
-- Even using all the "Engine" and simplify options I can find, the new format is jumpier and more complex than "Classic." Please offer the old Vs. Computer as an option. The new is clearly a lot of effort and may be fun, but let us have the choice. Thank you.

This change completely replaces the option. The site won't support two different code bases for the same thing
Since yesterday, the Vs. Computer chess changed from a simple format of selecting a difficulty, a game format, and starting colour. Now it is a complex hodgepodge.
Is there any way to play Vs. Computer with the interface that I have been using for years?
I do not see the option to play various games such as 960 in the new format, and the interface is both bulky and non-intuitive. The scroll widgets are too small, and having to pan down to the mode option--I do not know if this is equal to the old difficulty rating--and the UI change from how settings work in a very clean, small pane, to this huge scrolling list, is abominable.
