To anyone who reads and/or comments in this thread, thank you. I am very excited about this match. I will give my own impressions of it whenever I feel like it, and I hope y'all do the same!
We are watching the Gruenfeld defence. I like the few times I've played that defence lately. So this is a world class lesson today
A stupid question: is this the final?
Or do the two best players get chosen to play?
I thought I read something about Gelfand challenging Anand?
Yes, there is immediate tension in the chess match in trying to tolerate Nigel Short. This could be a futile endeavor for me personally

Anand is the reigning world champion, and last year, eight of the world's best players played a Candidates tournament to decide who gets the right to play Anand for the title
So, Houdini is evaluating the position after move #22 as -0.15, meaning even. They both have about 40 minutes left for seventeen moves

only one more appearance by Nigel Short
Well! It looks like we have a draw. So the match is tied: 0.5 - 0.5. Tomorrow's game will start at the same time, with Boris Gelfand having the white pieces.

I don't get it... Is there something I'm missing about Nigel Short?
I thought the first game was great. Clearly, Gelfand came well prepared...and I thought Anand looked like he forgot his preparation there at the beginning. It was an open sharp game with lots of complications...a draw was a fair result.
I could not handle Nigel Short, he looked unprepared, and his commentary was crap...plus the analysis board was so small, even with the full screen.
Anyways...lets hope tomorrow will be an improvement...can't wait.
Okay, we're a couple minutes away from the first move of the first game between World Chess Champion Anand and his challenger Gelfand! My coffee is done brewing, and toast is on it's way. Very exciting!
