Why are daily puzzle spammers repeatedly repeating their non-sense SPAMs day after day?

I don't quite understand.  You want there to be an automatic block imposed on someone who gets 7 downvotes?

I think that c(w)ould be misused.

@justbefair allow me a simple question: Is it a reason to repeatably allow spamming comments?

and to your question Sir "why should anyone care?" simply because we look for good threads from Leslie or Lokazi which are much faster than to watch a video.

I appreciate that you got rid of 2 brutal dictators who have no place under any circumstances on this forum.

Last but not least spammers damage chess.com's image (there are fewer ones on other chess apps...).

Thank you.

@erik

Of course we don't want forums filled with spam.

But cleaning them out takes a lot of work and as of this date, can't be done automatically.

For someone to go through several hundred pages of the daily puzzle forum multiple times in a day takes a lot of time.

I am happy to volunteer to help make Chess.com a better place but I usually focus my efforts on the keto gummy and Dubai prostitute posts.

I believe that makes more of a difference than chasing after "EZ" posters in the Daily Puzzle forum.

exactly Sir, 7 negative opinions ==> blocked for 2 weeks. Simple and that could dissuade people to write stupid comments, couldn't it?

That would be so easily abused and would never be implemented. So many people down-vote based on a lot of different reasons, but most of the time the comment getting the down-vote isn't against any posting guidelines at all.

So the Daily Puzzle thread spam continues. I have tried to moderate it via deletions of some lengthy nonsense spam posts last week and warnings to some of the people who made the posts.

However, with so many millions of people viewing the Daily Puzzle every day, it doesn't take a lot of effort for a few people to disrupt normal post viewing.

@justbefair: To paraphrase Gilbert&Sullivan: A Moderator's lot is not a happy one. At least you are trying, I appreciate your effort, and I am sure that others do, too.

Absolutely @justbefair since so many people do the daily puzzle, above 2 million, it must be clean of Spams, that is chess.com´s image after all, isn´t it. I signal over 100 spammers every day but to no avail, donkey and ph-llus... are still around...

It is not practical to try to make it "free" of spam.  Two million puzzle solvers will beat a few mods every time.

When I go through it, I try to remove the most disturbing posts and send warnings to the people who post them.

I would not waste your time admonishing the people who post "EZ".

I agree it is difficult to get rid of all spammers. The point is that in daily puzzle nobody notices that a moderator intervenes, it should be noticeable with "Moderator removed... "

Getting rid of stupid comments would not take long a strong message should be given. remember Sir that everyday it comes again and again, with Donkey, Moussam, Phallus and others. This is chess.com's image, it needs to be as clean as possible. Erik may agree?

I think you really have no idea of how long it takes to moderate more than 1000 comments.  Editing the comments to say "Moderator removed" takes a lot more keystrokes than deleting the post.

Yesterday was particularly bad.   It was Pi day and hundreds of people got it into their heads that it would be "fun" to post a million digits of pi.   It took at least thirty seconds to just scroll to the top of each post. Editing such posts would be very difficult.

I do think that seemingly well intentioned people spur them on to greater heights with all the spam telling people to stop spamming.

Thank you for explaining @justbefair. Don't you think that when car drivers see the police with radars they all slow down and if there are no radars many speed up?

Conclusion: everyday two or three "Moderator removed" in daily puzzle would be very efficient, nothing to lose, please try. Thank you.

@justbefair @martin_stahl (only the two visible moderators) and other players willing to have fewer spams on daily puzzle, do you agree with my above idea?

No.  I think that in many cases, visibly increased enforcement actually incites the very thing you are trying to stop.  Most of the problematic comments are made by recently opened accounts.  They don't really care if we warn them or mute them or close them.

Like I said, moderators are few.   There are millions of Daily Puzzle users.  If a few dozen want to post annoying comments, there is not much anyone can do to stop them, short of closing down the Daily Puzzle thread,

Iris_for_the_Pin

I was going to be finished here, but: I think it is sufficient a) to remove truly offensive posts (racism, gay bashing, scam ads, etc.) and b) to remove posts that make the thread truly unreadable (screens and screens of junk that take almost a minute to get past, multiple times. ) You, the mods, once you became aware of these types of posts, appear to be doing your best to do exactly that. It is unreasonable to expect exhausted humans to generate a perfect world. Mousam, donkey & Co. are easy to ignore. 12 15-screen posts of pi or EZ on a phone are not.

Thank you Sir, you are right, since you can't sort off 90% this thread, then close it down. Chess is logical, let us all be logical. That may help moderators who have some much to do and it is getting worse, and that may help the servers too and reduce bugs, who knows...

Shouldn't my idea to ban temporarily people with more than 5 or 7 negative vote be implemented?

@erik @justbefair @martin_stahl

justbefair

As Martin said before, any idea like yours (to give a muting to anyone with 7 down votes) would quickly be abused.

well, maybe Sir, but at least, wouldn't it be dissuasive and hence reduce spammers? I report most spammers on daily puzzle. 3 times "Moderator removed" would be a novelty on daily puzzle and make the moderators visible which not the case today. I am just trying to make daily puzzles a better place.

Yes maybe easy to ignore @156iris156 but wouldn't it also be easy to be "moderator removed"?

Iris_for_the_Pin

I have an idea: let trimalo walk a mile in your shoes for a couple of days. Let him/her mod the Daily Thread and he/she has to get *every* spam. Not allowed to ban, just moderate. Could be instructive...OK, I have other things to do now...

trimalo

Finally, the moderator is getting visible on the daily puzzle thread, a good start, as I suggested. I hope this will help to reduce debilitating comments. Thank you chess.com
