if n.c8 can black make an escape through pf6 or pg6 ? help...

Yep, I too think with pawn f6 black can escape.

did i mis something because it looked like the knight could just take the queen

  • #163

why didn't the rook take the knight and why didn't the knight take the queen?

rook mates....i'm trying to figure out if black can avoid mate by pf6 or/g6
fairly sure everything works out for white. PAWN MOVES WILL ALLOW BLACK AN ESCAPE THOUGH LOSE MATERIAL.

Excellent combination of tactics. I have solved this puzzle.

as several have pointed out, an early move by black to f6 would have allowed him to escape; doubt if most GMs would miss it.

    Not an easy one...

what a thing of beauty.... true attacking prowess

    Brilliant Queen Sacrifice!!!

  • #172

    BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • #173

    Hard this time

  • #174

What am I missing? I think black would have captured the knight with the rook or knight making this simply a knight give away and not a move that leads to mate. But like I started out saying, what am I missing?

    This one was tough.

I think some of the posters here are off their medications. Just because YOU don't understand the nuances doesn't make the puzzle stupid.

    SMOTHERED MATE

  • #177

After first move everything is much easier
