Beautiful.  After 1. Kc6, black cannot move his king; he must move his rook.  Unless he can do something about it, pawn to d7+ will be checkmate.  There are two ways black can "do something about it" i.e. be in a position to capture the white pawn at d7.  However, whichever one he chooses (... Rxh7 as in the daily puzzle or Rd8) leaves black vulnerable to mate from a queen or rook at h8.

Not counting delaying interpositions by the black rook, I see two alternative lines if black chooses the 1. ... Rd8 approach.
1. ... Rd8, 2. cxd8=Q+   Kxd8, 3. h8=Q#
or
1. ... Rd8,  2. h8=Q    Rxh8,  3. Rxh8#

For white a less efficient, but still effective line would be:
1. ... Rd8,  2. d7+   Rxd7,   3. h8=Q+   Rd8   4. Qxd8#
