It would have been easy if at 5. f6+  Kxf6. Why was this not played, to take the pawn easy? Would it have been easier to be down a rook than face an advancing king?  Could Kxf6 have been a more correct move?  I don't have shredder or any computer engine to check on this. Could someone lend a hand plea?

After 5...Kxf6 6. Rxd7, white's material advantage would be greater than the puzzle variation, even though in the puzzle variation white has a queen.
