    Because if the black Queen at any point takes the white Queen, it is a back rank mate in two with the white Rooks.  The black Queen is desperate not to be moved off the a4e8 diagonal and loose defence of her Rooks.

    I don't quite understand the puzzle. Why couldn't the white queen just take one of the black rooks. Even if the queen was defending the rook, wouldn't white get the same back rank mate with the two white rooks?
