You can q sack on the first move

    Doesn't quite work.  If 1. Qxh7+ Kxh7 2. Rf4 Rf8 (or Re8) 3. Rh4+ Kg8, no checkmate.  Black cannot respond to 1. Rf4 with Rf8 or Re8 due to 2. Qg7#.

I'm not entirely sure I understand why black gives up the bishop..

    Exactly, what was the point?

Without giving up the bishop Black gets mated in 4 moves:
    1 Rf4! Qf8 2 Qxh7+ Kxh7 3 Rh4+ Qh6 4 Rxh6#

Now you have an additional move:
    1 Rf4! Bg4 2 Rxg4 Qf8 3 Qxh7+ Kxh7 4 Rh4+ Qh6 5 Rxh6# Wink

    White's plan after 1 Rf4 is crystal clear: 2 Rh4 and 3 Qxh7#.
Black simply tries to live as long as possible! Laughing

The first move had me but once you know that it is self explanatory. Very good puzzle!

    :):):):):):)

    Need more like this

  • #91

This doesn't make sense to me.  Surely black's first response would be Qf8.

  • #92

    Nice!

  • #93

I knew there had to be a queen sac in there somewhere!

  • #94

Puzzles are getting worse every day :(

Fridaypuzzle should take more effort than 10 seconds literally

  • #95

    stupid puzzle

  • #96

I do not understand the first two moves.

  • #97

    that pawn !!!

  • #98

Aah! What do I do after Qf8??

  • #99

    Very nice!

  • #100

If black's 1st move is Q-f8, doesn't that stop all this nonsense! What do I not see?
