I figured it out but forgive my lack of understanding on this: when the white knight moved to f5, why didn't the pawn at g6 just take it?
Anyone else start randomly moving pieces hoping to find the answer? Or am I the only one who did that?
i have solved in seconds
h6 is the key square in the puzzle (if you see that, than the rest is easy)
I found it in less than 15 sec without noticing that so how was that the key square im just curious so I can improve.

Because the pawn is 'pinned' on g6 by the rook at c6 & moving it places the black king in check.
