The King can NOT take the Queen because is protected by the Knight on E6, only the K or the R can take!

hmm interesting. There are many possibilities here. there is a mate in 5 as well.

1. Qh6+  1.Ke8

2.Ng7+   2.Kf8

3.Ne6+  3. Ke8

4.Qf8+    4.Rf8

5.Ng7#
