    What about

    1. Kf4+  Kc4

    2. b3#

    or if 1. ...Ke4

    2. Qf3#

But perhaps this is not as much of a surprise...

  • #84

    sorry Kf4 should read Nf4

  • #85

Back to a queen sacrifice. Pulling King from escape squares was important.

  • #86

    I likethis ?

  • #87

i thought it was a "one move mate" puzzle until i desperately tried Qc4 as it prevents the black King from moving to E6...then Ne3 is just academic

  • #88

@thepurplebaron: move b3 is not equivalent to checkmate as the King would simply take the Bishop (KxB)

  • #89

EASY! I GOT IT ON THE VERY FIRST TRY!

I would be very hesitant to play this in a match.  I'd probably spend half of my time making sure it was a garaunteed mate.  Any other move for white loses the game because the black king can escape, and black has much more material than white

The  black king in  the middle and the white king on it's 7th.  I don't get it. Is there a strategy of devoloping your king?
