I was so fixated on the white knight forking black king to queen it took me forever to notice the actual solution. So this was cool.
this puzzle is brilliant!!
Kd3 also works. any place you put the knight actually solves it after the queen move
After 1. Qd4+ Kxd4, 2. Nd7# is the only move to checkmate. It is the only move by the c5 knight which stops 2...Rxa7 and 2...Ke5.
I thought it was awesome to fork the queen and king....nope even better when there is a mate in 2
how does this benfit white? its note mate and no more queen?
um... yes it is
Sometimes you need to sac the queen in order to get the quick checkmate as this example plainly illustrates.
Nd3 instead of Nd7 also works. Nice puzzle
no it doesn't...
Exactly, because the knight blocks the rook from capturing the DSB applying check. If the knight gets moved to d3, the rook captures that bishop and play continues. However it is also a strong move because it is also a discovered attack on the black queen, but Polgar saw that moving the knight to the square blocking the rook was the end of the game.
Nice and Easy!
