A rather huge one. In order to deliver checkmate with two bishops they need to be opposite colors. In the checkmate position, your king can only control 2 of the 4 squares needed to checkmate the king if you choose to checkmate them in the corner. One of your bishops need to deliver the check, and the other needs to guard the remaining escape square.

but I don't want control squares.

I want checkmate.

even outside that, in order to create the impassable wall to shrink the opponents kings escape options, your bishops need to be side by side guarded by your king.

otherwise, the king will be free to shuffle.

ok so where's problem?

You can't deliver checkmate.

The main ability of the opposite color bishop pair is they can control squares the other bishop cannot control. If the opposing king is in the corner, your king has to control two squares to prevent the king from moving to them. the bishop on the color of the square in the corner has to deliver checkmate, and the remaining bishop has to control the third escape square

you can only do check with bishop, not king

and here waht if the king goes into other color, unreachable

and if you dont do check, you dont do checkmate

...

I want checkmate.

If you control enough squares you can get stalemate instead. Almost as good.

Stockfish loves this (legal) position for white. 31 pawns up, apparently.

I can only count 27.
