No, it means +31 in terms of computer evaluation.

An interesting point.

SF8 gives a similar evaluation and that's pre NNUE. If I understand it correctly the evaluation is the evaluation of some leaf position reachable from the given position according to the programmers' evaluation of that leaf position.

But the leaf position could only be two kings and a lot of same coloured bishops so what would be the point of assigning anything other than 0?

It doesn't understand it is a draw. Admittedly it is not the most practically important deficiency. It does give a clue how crude evaluations relating to material can be.

But the programmers should understand it's a draw and they determine the leaf evaluations. Up to SF8 engines are pretty similar to the mechanical Turk. They're just better at bookkeeping the evaluations determined by the programmers.

I think they just don't bother because in computer v .computer matches they have an EGTB. A bit of a shame because a reasonably strong but imperfect engine is useful to complement practice against the tablebases for a human.

I had a version of Rybka 15+ years ago that could manage 50+ move deep KNNKP endings under its own steam. None of the SF versions can and the latest version of Rybka I downloaded can't even do KBNK mates.

Edit: OK the tablebases bit doesn't apply to your position, but you also get 7+ in OP's position.

Obviously a troll thread (oops)

You need only click on OP's icon to confirm that.

I still don't know how
